Sporadic Life Update!

Hey there! Long time no update? I have actually been really busy for the first time all year and it's pretty awesome! After a long, crappy winter, the sun started shining and I managed to score not one but TWO jobs! The first job is a transcribing job up on campus that starts in September (although I am doing online training until then), and it's really awesome and pays really well and they basically said that they hired me BECAUSE I was a college drop out hahaha. See, my lack of educational ambition is good for something after all!

The second job is at a call center, calling people to take surveys. After a whole week of working there, I quit. Seriously, how does ANYBODY manage to stick with such a horrid job? Since I get paid to do the training for the other job, I figured I'd just work harder every day on that, and so far it's working out pretty good!

More about the better job... hopefully by the end of August, I will be a certified TypeWell transcriber! THIS is a really good article about what I've been working on the last week and a half. I ordinarily type at 85-90 wpm with 99% accuracy, but by the time I'm finished I should be typing at 150+ wpm! The system has this really cool computer program that has tens of thousands of abbreviations for basically any word you can think of, plus a lot of cool tricks like how to correct mistakes without having to backspace and how to punctuate without pressing the shift key. (They won't just let me use the period button, which I find to be a little silly, but maybe when I'm actually typing a lot faster it'll make more sense.) I've been working really hard on it the last few days and I'm trying to get it done on time!

Other exciting news, WE HAVE A CAR :D Nathan's cousin Taylor gave it to us last weekend and it's been a lot of fun teaching Nathan how to drive a stick shift, but he's got the hang of it now! I would post pictures of it but we keep losing the camera! Thank you, Taylor! Also, as an employee of the college, I get FREE PARKING ANYWHERE ON CAMPUS! Nathan's been enjoying that lately :)

Nathan is almost done with the semester, and he's working really hard on finishing all of his final projects and papers. I wish he had more time to relax and de-stress before moving onto the next project, but I guess that's the life of a college student (see also: why I quit school). The semester is over next week, and then the week after that we are going to drive back to Washington!

Last night I went to the Rexburg farmer's market with my friend Joanna and I bought a "Bratwurst im Brot" from some German guy and I spoke disgustingly broken German to him! It's good to know that I still understand most of it, even though I can't speak it as well as I used to. The sausage guy seemed pretty thrilled to sprech his Sprach! I don't think he gets to do that very often.

Tonight Nathan took me to the Sound Alliance concert at the college. We thought the Sound Alliance was a choir, but it's a jazz band. Nathan needed to attend two "events" this semester for his humanities class, and he went to one on Thursday and one tonight. Way to leave it to the last minute! All the same, the concert was a blast. I forgot how much fun jazz band was, and they were phenomenal!

Sooooo this is definitely a nice change! I have something to talk about and I am really excited to do so! I have actually been too busy to update my food blog, but I will try to do that tomorrow, if I have time before church or energy after church. I have to teach Relief Society AND my regular secretarial duties! Also, the ward choir is singing in sacrament meeting tomorrow; wish us luck! I should probably, like, finish preparing my lesson but I think I would rather go to bed early haha. I'm an incredibly lazy person.

All the single digits!

We're down to nine days until the wedding! HOLY CRAP! I can't even say anything about that because I have no idea where my head is at.

My dress is done! I'm picking it up this afternoon! I can't waaaaaait!

My shower is tonight! I'm super super super excited! Nathan's "bachelor party" is also tonight but I'm pretty sure the shower is going to be more fun.

Ummmmm. Yeah.

I forgot everything else I meant to say.

BAM.

I made ZUPPA TOSCANA all by myself tonight!

Weirdest Friday so far this week.

So about 9 & 3/4 of Nathan's aunts came to town for the weekend to surprise his mom for her birthday! It was pretty cool, but I didn't expect to meet them all so soon! Please enjoy my insightful opinion on each of them.

Marcy: I'm just going to go ahead and say I like her, but only because I want to be able to go to her house for dinner when Nathan and I are in Rexburg. Just kidding, I actually do like her.

Suzanne: She's a few quarters short of a nickel, if you know what I mean.

Sherri: She hates mushrooms. I don't know how I feel about that. Otherwise she's pretty cool.

Tia: She's pretty rad. She referenced Horcruxes and Pokemon in two seperate haikus.

Keira: Just as awful as I thought she would be. Plus her baby cries a lot. To be fair, I would cry, too, if I had his mom.

These incredibly kind (well, four of them, plus Nathan's mom) ladies threw me an impromptu shower tonight! I was kind of creeped out at first, because it started off in the direction of some sort of ritual hazing, which probably would not have boded well for me. I swore off hazing a long time ago, but it was virtually painless!

There was a haiku-writing competition and then this game where you take a piece of paper behind your back and tear a wedding dress. Mine was definitely the worst, but whatever. Then we ate some pear crisp and then they gave me presents! I was kind of in shock, because I was expecting a bunch of cheesy and/or silly gifts (which would have been great) but instead they got me a bunch of awesome kitchen gear! I REALLY want to make a pizza, but there's probably some taboo about using wedding gifts before you're married. Nathan probably needs to stash them somewhere before I jinx our marriage or something.

Speaking of Nathan, he's sick again. Poor guy. This probably means that I'm going to get sick soon. Ick. I was sick in late August or early September and getting sick again just wouldn't be fair. I'm selfish. Sorry :(

We watched Wednesday's episode of Glee tonight and IT WAS AWESOME. If you're not watching this, you should. Seriously.

Ach, Härm Noch!

Oh jeez. I haven't blogged in forever. Sorry. Here, enjoy a list.

1. After a week or so of doing absolutely nothing wedding-related, Nathan and I finally got our butts in gear and accomplished a few things. The first is we made our wedding registry at Target. It wasn't exactly the non-stop fun-fest that we were told it would be, but it was fun enough. Yesterday, my brother-in-law Jonathan took some engagement pictures for us! They look pretty good, but we haven't decided which one we're going to use.

2. I could include this with number one but I don't feel like it. Tomorrow, my mom and I are going to see Teresa and finalize a dress design and then go fabric shopping. OH MY GOSH! I'm really excited for this :D I hope she has some cool ideas, because if there is one thing I will absolutely never be, it's a clothing designer. All of those Project Runway episodes have done me absolutely no good.

3. I could include this with number two but I won't. The next thing on our list is announcements. If there's time tomorrow, Nathan and I are going to head up to Paper Zone and find some, you know, paper. We have a couple weeks before the ~appropriate~ time to send them out, so we really need to get on that.

4. Next Monday, my German host sister Alex will be arriving! She'll be staying at my house for a couple weeks and it's going to be RADDD. As a precursor to this, I have to clean my ENTIRE house. My room is by far the most daunting task at hand. I'm doing twelve thousand loads of laundry today. Why do I have so many clothes? And shoes, oh my gosh. I have like 20 pairs of shoes. Possibly more, but I'm afraid to count.

5. For the first time in my life, I watched all four sessions of General Conference. WOW. That was a lot of conference. At one point, Nathan's mom referred to Elder Bednar as "Babyface Bednar" and I laughed for a century.

6. Neil Diamond sucks.

Ron loves Twizzlers.

Okay, here's a bit of back story for everyone. I have started and deleted a blog at this address no less than four times. I've never been much of a blogger...

You know, that's not true. I was big into blogging back in middle school, but pretty much everything I had to say was irrelevant and stupid and generally the typical whiny, 12 year-old girl crap that one would ordinarily expect. Nowadays, the vehicle I used for such posts--my beloved LiveJournal--is more or less a dumping ground for my Twitter updates and I'll rarely post something worth reading.

Enter this particular blog. I can't guarantee anything lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy will be seen here, but I just want to see how well I can keep up with the goings-on in my life. Now seems to be as good a time as ever because...

I'm spacing this out so as to incite anticipation.

I GOT ENGAGED ON SUNDAY! HOLY CATS!

My fantastic and brilliant boyfriend Nathan made a ring box out of origami paper (no pattern, I might add!) and asked me to marry him during a walk on Centennial Trail after Stake Conference. Of course, I said yes! I'm sure I could discourse for hours about how great Nathan is, but I'm afraid it would read a lot like Twilight if I were to do so. Except Nathan is not a fictional character, nor dead, nor creepy. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, LADIES AND GENTS. NATHAN WEST > EDWARD CULLEN.

I'm way too lazy to upload my own pictures of the ring and the box, so if you're curious, check out a couple of blog posts from my be-awesome future mother-in-law HERE
and HERE. (I sincerely hope someone got that reference.)

So what now? Wedding planning. I honestly have no idea where to start. We've got the date (December 19th) and we've reserved a room at the Seattle temple, but THAT was the easy part. Tomorrow I'm going out with my mom and Nathan's sister Stephanie to try on some different dresses to see which styles don't look completely heinous on me. We're hoping to have my dress made by the same woman who made my sister Rachel's wedding dress in 06, but it will help to have some ideas to go off of!

Luckily for us, the entire planet seems to have our back and we'll have a lot of help. What I need to be focused on
--first, foremost, and continually--is keeping calm and doing my best to not get stressed out over the little things and in the meantime enjoy my engagement! I'll only be engaged once!

Happy trails!
