Sometimes I forget how lucky I am. I have great hair, I'm good at brushing my teeth, I make REALLY delicious salsa, the house I live in has a roof that is intact and protects me from the rain, I am healthy, I'm a very capable babysitter, and most importantly, I am engaged to the most amazing person I have ever met and we're getting married in FIVE WEEKS in the temple!
In the last week or so, I've been feeling the pressure. I'm not usually much of a crier, but I have definitely been having miniature sob-fests about twice a day. It's really weird and I wish I wasn't getting so emotional and stressed out. It's incredibly stupid, but I dislike being emotional around other people, especially since it's not a normal thing for me. I wrote in "Rebekah's panic attack" on the West's calendar. I think everyone needs to be prepared. December 17th, it's on.
I am so happy and excited at the prospect of getting married, but I am really losing it with planning the reception. This is not my forte AT ALL. I don't and have never had an eye for details. I definitely don't care very much if there are centerpieces on the tables, but I have been assured that we must have centerpieces. By George, we will HAVE centerpieces. I sure hope they're pretty.
This makes it sound like nothing's done, which is not the case. Let me make a list.
1. We got the invitations printed and sent out!
2. Nathan's aunt Suzanne agreed to come take our pictures! Thank you, Sue!
3. My dress is coming along. I'm going to Teresa's house on Monday for the first fitting of the actual dress!
4. I have shoes! They're gold! They're beautiful!
5. Apparently both of my sisters have bridesmaid dresses. I don't care that much.
6. Julie, the woman who has been cutting my hair for years, told me she would do my hair as her gift to me!
7. Oh man, I haven't blogged this: We got a great apartment in Rexburg! We move in on the 30th.
8. We asked Stephanie to call her sister-in-law about maybe decorating our cake :) Hope that pans out!
9. In that same vein, we got the number of the "Costco Flower Lady" and will be calling her and/or emailing her once we figure out how many flowers we need!
10. We got our marriage license yesterday! We could get married on Sunday if we wanted, but I guess we'll wait. I guess...
I know I need to chill out and focus on the really awesome part where I'm marrying Nathan in the temple. The reception is more for our families than for us. In the long run, it doesn't matter if he decides to get a suit or a tux. It doesn't matter what color shoes my sisters wear. It doesn't matter if Debbie decides to Bedazzle her blue jumper and just wear that [an aside: please don't do that]. It doesn't matter if we don't get a Kitchenaid mixer... that much... but what really matters starts at 10 AM on December 19th in the Seattle temple. I'll be there; will you?
In the meantime, maybe some Xanax and a day or two away from all things involving the wedding.
Man, I'm checking Craig's List for a Bedazzler right now.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you blogged again! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteIf the cake decorater doesn't work out my friend brie is a professional cake decorater who charges close to nothing. She went to school for it and everything.
Let me know if you need any help. I LOVE weddings and planning and everything.

I am not a crier or a fancy nancy but my engagement was often tearful over stupid things like dress sleeves. I am happily married now though.

Relax. Eat, drink and be married.
I looked at airplane tickets. For me alone, it would be about $600. Would you forgive us for not attending if we bought you that white kitchen aid mixer you want? Seriously.
